In our current world, there are so much that happens everyday, and they are
always so many stories to tell about everyone. Some of the stories are never expected,
and some you learn from. There are so many race issues stories that not myriad of
people hear about when everyone should know about, so it doesnt occur again. For this
paper an issue that is encountered many times in our recent time, and that happens
when it shouldnt, is the wage gap for woman of color in any career that she choses.
The wage gap for African American women is a very big issue and something that has
been looked at before, but did not change to an extent were the problem was resolved.
For this problem, African American women is getting paid less compared to the
men and compared to another race. A racial and gender wage gap hurts African
American woman in the United States, and it is considered to be a big problem in our
world, although that is might seam that the problem is being solved but the numbers
dont show that, either with full time job or from part time jobs, or whether they have a
college degree or they dont, they wage difference is still the same. Especially for
African American woman were the wage gap barely changed from 1980s until now,
were the change shouldnt even be considered as change over this long period of time.
This topic is one of the most controversial topics recently, it is a topic that is
being discussed everywhere, whether it is on social media or on the news, it is a
popular topic. Moreover, this topic is a very serious issue that occurs with a large
number of people everyday in the United States. This issue harms many kids and
families all over the states. The main reason that I have chose this topic to discuss on
this paper is that this issue in my opinion should be discussed more and it should be
discussed in a more serious setting. Moreover, in my opinion this topic shouldnt only be
discussed, but it should also resolve the issue that hurts a lot of people in the country.
For that reason, I chose this topic to write about and discuss in my paper, because this
is a serious issue that needs to be resolved although people have been trying to solve it
for the past few decades.
In this paper there is an interview of a friend that is going to be included through
out the experiment. The interview was included because the story behind it ties back to
the topic of this paper and it supports the articles used in this paper. The friend went
through what is being discussed in this paper, and she went through more through out
the same experiment. Which everything will be discussed while talking about how she
applied to a job, got accepted, and then got fired just because of the wage gap, and
through out this paper it will show how it affected her life.
For this controversial topic it is discussed that how African American woman
have a lower average pay per hour compared to white men. It is also seen that the
wage gaps happen because of there is a labor market discrimination, which is that other
race could be more productive which harms women of color in the labor market. Other
reasons that is affecting this topic is that it is implied that women ability in math is less,
which is not true but it affects the chances of an African American women that is trying
to get a job or is trying to earn a living (Weinberger, 2002).
This topic is considered to be a hot topic, a place where between feminist
scholars is considered to be an intersection between race, and gender together. Which
makes this topic controversial, and how in the labor market African American women
are seen and how they are affected, which is considered to be a unique experience
because of the intersection of being a women and be African American (Irene & Joya,
2003). In the wage gap this intersection is shown, and it is visible that there is a
difference in this intersection (Irene & Joya, 2003).
