SAS is one of the most successful and influential companies around the world. The
company deals with data analysis, software formulation, and the provision of solutions to data
and software problems. Over the years, the organization has grown to be the best analytics
organization in the industry by providing excellent analytics software and solutions (Kaplan
p.10). The entity was founded in 1976 by Jim Goodnight, and it started as a statistical analysis
system but later adopted the software formulation to assist in business intelligence (High p.8).
Today, the organization has grown and diversified its business around the world. By expanding
its activities globally, it has opened doors for creativity and innovation worldwide. Therefore,
SAS is a suitable organization to benchmark for best management practices. It has managed to
maintain an excellent track record through the years and posted positive progress annually.
For SAS to achieve this success and global recognition, it has incorporated various
principles of management practices in its organization’s mission and vision statements. For
instance, one of the management principles used by the SAS is remuneration which aims to
keep their employees satisfied. Although they may not be the best-paid employees in this
sector, the salaries the workers receive is sufficient to motivate them and enhance their
productivity within the organization. SAS also embraces the spirit of teamwork. For example,
the firm has a culture that encourages employees to have recreational activities within the
organization. It is also in the company’s mission statement that employees are guaranteed job
security thus embracing the stability of tenure of personnel in principles of management
(Crowley p.6). The enterprise allows employees to have lateral movement within the
organization to assist them in breaking the monotony. This prevents the workers from
remaining stuck in one department and hence it reduces employee turnover. Therefore, SAS
proves to be one of the best companies to benchmark for best management practices to achieve
success.
