750-1000 word Essay on VA Faces Critical Shortfalls

Details *In earlier topics, you explored the tenet of conscious leadership and the influence of self-awareness on your leadership style. You established that a clear understanding of your abilities, motivation, and goals provides a firm foundation for leading others. Leadership studies demonstrate that the most effective leaders know how to draw upon self-leadership skills to in turn motivate and lead others to expand their strengths to ultimately better serve the goals of an organization. For this assignment, you will continue to study conscious leadership and look at a leadership example from contemporary media and evaluate how well the particular leader exemplifies the qualities of effective and ethical conscious leadership. Then, you will compose your own leadership philosophy statement to articulate the qualities that will make you an effective conscious leader of people and organizations. Part 1: For Part 1, select a relevant and topical leadership issue from current news media that revolves around ethics and ethical decision making. Topics must be approved by your instructor (See Attached for topic that was approved by instructor). Once approved, research the situation and gather data in order to evaluate the dynamics of the situation. Write an evaluation (500-750 words) of the situation that addresses the following: 1.The power bases used by the leader. 2.The influence tactics used by the leader. 3.The leadership style of the leader. 4.The outcome (or potential outcome) of the situation. Conclude by justifying whether or not you think this leader supports the values of conscious capitalism. Is the leader’s leadership style effective? Do you believe the leader acted ethically in the situation? Be sure to consider each tenet of conscious capitalism in your leader evaluation. Next, imagine yourself as a practitioner of servant leadership. You have been appointed into the leadership role in this same circumstance. Explain how the situation would be different. Address the four criteria listed above in your discussion and incorporate the principles of conscious capitalism by explaining how your personal values and style are influenced by each tenet. Part 2: For Part 2, develop a leadership philosophy statement as an appendix to your evaluation in Part 1. Begin by reviewing your self-assessment results from Topic 2 (Attached) and reflecting on what you have learned about effective leadership and conscious capitalism in the course. Keep in mind that one’s leadership philosophy is a unique statement that encapsulates your own view of leadership, so the final product may vary, but your statement should incorporate the following: 1.Personal values and beliefs that influence your leadership style. 2.Past experiences or people that have influenced the development of those values. 3.Expectations of self and others. 4.Leadership style and influence tactics. Your goal is to create a distinctive statement (250-500 words) that incorporates the elements outlined above. The end product should clearly articulate how you view yourself as a leader and how others would view you as a leader. It should also make clear how you can contribute to the success of other people and an organization as a whole. **You are required to use at least three academic references to support your reasoning for the team selection process. ***Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines. ****You will be graded on: 1. Evaluation of Influence Tactics: Evaluation of influence tactics used by the leader is thorough and well integrated. 3. Evaluation of Leadership Style: Evaluation of leadership style, effectiveness, and whether the leader supports the values of conscious capitalism is thorough and well integrated. 4. There is a clear explanation of how the student views own leadership style, how other view the leadership style of the student, and how this contributes to the success of an organization. 7. The Self-Assessment Reflection Essay
John Mackey and Raj Sisodia define conscious leaders as those people who are interested
in nurturing and safeguarding business for the future generations as well as possessing
exceptional moral courage. Mackey and Sisodia go on to state that these conscious leaders derive
happiness and joy from their work. Conscious leaders also take the opportunity to lead, serve,
and inspire visions and generations with great enthusiasm (Hofman, 2008). They are also happy
and eager to share their passion with other people. The duties of these conscious leaders energize
and recharge them thus making them dedicated to their work.
Comparison of Conscious Leadership
Servant leadership theory focuses on both individuals as well as a decentralized
organizational structure. This philosophy builds better organizations and it is enriching the lives
of individuals. Relational leadership theory is the other theory is another leadership theory; it
stresses the significance of building healthy relationships in an organization. One of the
characteristics of conscious leaders according to Mackey and Sisodia is that one is self-aware
and introspective (Ward & Haase, 2016). Servant leaders, and relational leaders, are also selfaware and introspective. This means that these leaders have an inner authority and wisdom that is
deeper intelligence. These leaders know who they are and strive to improve on their weaknesses
or approaches that do not suit their teams. Another primary characteristic that servant leaders and
relational leaders share with conscious leaders is one strive to inspire a vision and generations.
These leaders create cultures where other may excel, realize their full potential as well as feeling
empowered.

leaders are only concerned with the ethical norms that govern their businesses but not typically
concerned with the overall well-being of society. Servant leaders usually consider the general
implications of their practices to the society. Thus, going beyond generally accepted ethical
principles in the process. Conscious leaders, on the other hand, care about all the organization’s
stakeholders, the customers, and employees when coming up with policies. This usually results
in sustained outcomes and better futures. Conscious leaders are grounded in values, family,
society, work and live life from a position of wholeness and integrity (Pavlovich, 2013).
The Importance of Emotional Intelligence, Self-Awareness and Self-Concept
Emotional intelligence is the capability of leaders, to be aware of their own and other
people’s emotions which enables them to handle interpersonal relationships wisely (Walton,
2012). Emotional intelligence plays a key role that enables effective conscious leadership. These
leaders with high emotional intelligence can use emotional information to guide their thinking
and behavior; they may able to adjust emotions to enable them to adapt to different environments
as they strive to achieve their goals and those of the organization (Hofman, 2008). This attribute
aids conscious leaders to transcend ego for the greater good of the company. Individuals’
perceptions of their unique characteristics, abilities, and behavior are what characterizes selfconcept. The notion of looking at oneself with an aim of examining unique characteristics and
aspects that are substantial in defining one’s identity is known as self-assessment (DaSilveira,
DeSouza, & Gomes, 2015).
The attributes of self-awareness and self-concept also play a key role that enables
effective conscious leadership because individuals who adopt these attributes may identify how
their emotions impact their behaviors and thoughts. These individuals are also able to learn their
strengths and weaknesses at the workplace which contributes to build their self-confidence.

These people know who they are and strive to improve on their weaknesses or approaches that
do not suit their teams. Self-concept and self-assessment also enables one to trust their intuition
and constantly assesses themselves. All these attributes enable one to create a deeper connection
with individuals by trying to understand them.
Analysis of the Self-Assessment Tests
After completing the learning styles assessment, I discovered that my preferred learning
style is Multimodal. The strategies in which encompass four preferences are: kinesthetic
strategies, aural strategies, visual strategies and read/write strategies. I can effectively learn using
any single one of the four multiple strategies. After completing the value assessment, I
discovered that the terminal value that matters most is having a comfortable life, which translates
to having a prosperous life. The instrumental value that I require to achieve this terminal value is
being ambitious, which translates to hard work and being aspiring.
These results represent who I am as a leader, I am very ambitious in setting the
expectation high for success and work hard towards achieving those accomplishment. The notion
that to use Multimodal strategies as my learning style preference means that I am able to adapt to
different situations that arise while carrying out my duties as a leader. These results will inspire
me to be a conscious leader by aiding me to create cultures where individuals may excel, realize
their full potential as well as feeling empowered (Pavlovich, 2013). Leading by example and
showing my ambitious and hardworking attributes at the workplace may likely be imitated by
team members and subordinates.
Insights from the Self-Assessment Tests
After taking the self-assessment tests, I have learned that I am an independent individual,
who would do anything possible to achieve success on my own. This knowledge will aid me to

strive hard to create deeper connections with others at the workplace by understanding fellow
colleagues and their point of views. This will assist me in improving on self-weaknesses, which
ultimately will make me be a more conscious leader. The way for success is sharing my beliefs
and may also enable to inspire a vision by nurturing and safeguarding business for the future
generations.
The Significance of the Self-Assessment Results
The self-assessment results have helped me to realize that teamwork, cooperation, and
understanding are key to achieving success in a group or organizational setting. I have also
learned when dealing with others in the workplace, it is important to transcend ego for the
greater good and success of the business. I have also learned that it is important for one to
understand their emotions and never let their feelings rule them. When one could manage their
emotions, they will unlikely get angry or frustrated when faced with stressful situations and may
not make questionable, impulsive and careless decisions (Walton, 2012). Having a social
awareness attributes makes one a respected leader and great team player. Being an excellent
decision maker, communicator, as well as master at building and maintaining relationships is
also key in responding to the management tactics of others at the workplace.
Conclusion
Conscious leaders are self-aware and introspective which means that they embrace the
attributes of self-concept and self-assessment; which enables them to trust their intuition and
constantly assess themselves. These attributes enable these types of leaders to be able to create
connections with their colleagues and employees. It is important for all leaders at the workplace
to adopt the primary characteristics of conscious leaders because it will enable them to inspire
future generations as well as caring about the well-being of all the organization’s stakeholders,
