SAS organization is a business analytics in software and technical service provider. SAS operates through
factional divisions that include worldwide marketing, sales, research and development, finance, legal and
corporate service (Crowley, 2013). Under this segment, it is vital to highlight three of the unique leadership
values that made SAS Company an exceptional workplace, which fosters creativity and innovation.
At the corporation, the employees are valued. The management puts a lot of trust in the capabilities of their
employees. This dramatically motivates the workers and fosters innovation and creativity within the
organization. For example, during the 2009 recession, the management did not lay-off their workforce but
believed in their capabilities and that they will perform. The employees discovered breakthrough products
that led to the corporation making substantial profits during the recession. Additionally, the corporation’s
management offers recreational facilities to its employees (Crowley, 2013). The workers and their families
have free access to the gymnasium fitted with all the relevant equipment. When employees are treated with
importance, it makes the highly skilled and talented workers remain creative and innovative.
Furthermore, at SAS Company the culture of trust exists between the management and its employees. To earn
trust, employees are given tremendous freedom on the hours of work. Therefore, when employees are
trusted and given the total respect by management, it dramatically improves their morale in the firm. This, in
turn, fosters innovation and creativity within the organization (Crowley, 2013).
However, within SAS organization, some factors were inhibiting creativity and innovation. Considering the
functional organizational structure of SAS Company, there are weak social bonds among the employees. The
segregation of employees based on their specialty at the firm leads to minimal interaction between the
workers. Creativity is usually enhanced by human interaction and by sharing ideas. Therefore, the
segregation of workers creates an environment that limits employee creativity and innovation significantly
since employees’ interactions are limited.
