that would be my dream job after graduation. Where it would be? Ahh, it will be nice if the
department hold place in Asia (especially China). I believe any international size motor company

Phase 3.0 Explore Concepts and Solutions
Complete the following 4 steps:
1. Design Principles Generation – Transforming insights from research into
actionable, forward-looking statements to guide ideation.
2. Insights to Design Principles to Opportunities to Concepts – transitioning
from analysis to synthesis: exploring opportunities based on defined design
principles.
3. Share your work in your team critique session; incorporate feedback for
User session.
4. Share with your User and capture their feedback.
What are Design Principles?
Design Principles fill the “intuition gap” that exists between understanding
user needs and the solution that meets those needs.
This method is a way to purposely transition from the insights you’ve
framed to begin to explore concepts in a disciplined manner, so concepts
are fully grounded in objective research data rather than biased by
subjective assumptions.
What are Design Principles?
Design Principles fill the “intuition gap” that exists between understanding user
needs and the solution that meets those needs. The process of generating
design principles is a way to purposely transition from the insights you’ve
framed to begin to explore concepts in a disciplined manner, so concepts are
fully grounded in objective research data rather than biased by subjective
assumptions.
Design principles are actionable, forward-looking prescriptive statements. Use a
verb phrase to write your design principle. For example: “Increase user’s
confidence by identifying concrete ways (such as “Meet Up” groups, volunteer
opportunities, etc.) to develop their leadership and managerial skills.”
Design principles should be statements that can support easy concept
exploration.

Design Principles Generation
Step 1 – Gather all your insights
Step 2 – Create a list of insights: eliminate duplicates, combine
similar insights. Write a short description of each insight.
Step 3 – Generate design principles: Use the insights as
references to brainstorm with team members to generate design
principles.
Step 4 – Identify three to five high-level design principles.
Summarize and share with your team for feedback.
Insights to Design Principles to Opportunities to Concepts
Use your insights and design principles to imagine SINGLE OPPORTUNITIES – a product, service or
message. Then think about how people, things and environments might work together as SYSTEM
OPPORTUNITIES. Use these opportunities to imagine CONCEPTS that could populate your user’s
roadmap.

change in the next year? 3 to 5 years?
Continue to conduct “environmental scanning” to speculate on how
conditions and trends might impact your user’s career field of choice in
the next 3 to 5 years. You won’t be able to forecast precisely, but you
can speculate on the changes that might occur based on the trends and
conditions you know today.
