BOOK REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS
Please select one book out of the list that I provided; or any book that is closely
related to HRD and you are interested in reading.
REQUIREMENTS
Title: the title should be the bibliographic entry for the book plus the number of pages, whether
there are appendices, images, and/or bibliography.
Author (or Editor), Title (italicized or underlined), Publisher, Place of Publication, copyright date.
INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH (about 150 words)
Introductory paragraph must have introductory remarks and a clear STATEMENT.
The STATEMENT must answer the question of why this book is or is not a useful book for
HRD professionals, for example, how it is related to training and development, organization
development, career development, or any other related issues.
PARAGRAPH #2 REPORT OF CONTENT (150-200 words)
Summarize (NOT Paraphrase) the content (and, if appropriate, the organization) of the book.
This is the “report” part of the review.
PARAGRAPHS #3 & 4 ANALYSIS OF BOOK (200-250 words each)
The next two paragraphs (about 150 words each) should analyze specific examples from the
book to prove the STATEMENT of YOUR REVIEW (NOT of the book!!).
Questions to consider when analyzing a book include (but are not limited to): Does the author
prove her/his point of view? How did the author develop his argument? Is the author’s analysis
logical and persuasive? Is the author’s writing clear and comprehensible? What are things that
you would like to be revised or improved in the book, if any?
PARAGRAPH #5 CONCLUSION (about 150 words)
