Childhood and Video games effects on children
Since the begging of any person life games are something very important part to increase
the child knowledge and skills to make them grow up faster. Games were and still a good way in
school or neighborhoods that make children communicate more and have a chance to build up a
strong friendship. Even parents try always to choose the best games to help the child to grow up.
In each culture there is a specific type of games that make the child gain and practice his or her
own talent. Usually, people choose these games based on how people in the past have created
games and how did that effect on their brain and body. There are a lot of either traditional
childhood games or video games where the child need to read or think to solve a puzzle which
will obviously make the child start using his or her brain to solve the puzzle either by reading or
writing to go to the next level of that game. Since each one of us was a child or parents or any
relative adult around us were giving us either questions or puzzles and time to think about or
answer. By that way thinking and answering will help us as children to improve our skills of
thinking and even our confidence of answering. But do games really make the child grow up
faster? Does the whole effect of games only on mind or also on body? Did people games in the
past still in use in our present? Why or Why not?
A large debate is going on around us now to show that does games effect on the child in a
positive way wither mentally, socially or even physically. In the past, people games were created
by children before them who felt the gain of knowledge and skills from these games and made
some of them find out a talent inside them that they did not know about it. However, then each
generation started transferring these games to the next generation to feel the same thing and find
the talent inside them. Games such as Duck, duck, goose and Whats the time, Mr. Wolf? Are
really old games which were founded to make children move around and think at the same time?

handkerchief and try to capture it. These kinds of games are showing how childhood games are
different between each culture and these games were created based on the lifestyle of each
culture and after that it became a traditional game of each childhood culture. According to
Efendi, Dwi Imam study, traditional games such as Bekel and Benteng will increase the child
ability to control muscles and specially feet. Dirjen PLS. (2007). Found that engaging children to

In our present, many things have changed from the past and many old games are not in
use now and children do not like to play it. The present have brought a new thing to children of
the 20th century to play with instead of the old games which is media and video games. Early in
1970s the first video game came out by Nutting Associates and the game was Computer Space,
since that until now many companies came out with new games with better graphics and more
creative idea of games. This kind of games have changed the way of children learning and
playing which created a large debate about is the video games better for children or not? Are
parents still in control of their children behavior?
According to an article was written by Jonathan Wells and Francis Blagburn in 2017
about video games “They’re melting your brain”. “They’re ruining your eyes”. “They’re turning
you into a violent person”.
Many researchers show that video games are causing weakness in the brain which might
lead to a serious problem for children in their future life. Also, Gentile & Anderson (2003) state
that playing video games might increase the violence and the aggressive behaviors of children.
Playing video games have a lot if disadvantages such as attention problems and according to a
study published in Pediatrics magazine (Christakis 2004, Small 2008). Children who play video
games more than 2 hours a day is more likely in a risk to have attention problems. Impatience,
Addiction and Sleep Deprivation are also other problems that children might have because of
video games. On the other hand, some researchers show that video games increase the child
intelligence and skills. According to A child’ power in game-play when teachers or parents ask
children about what they like about video games? They will usually talk about freedom and selfconfidence which show that video games effected positively on their brain and way of thinking.
Physicists have shown that video games have a good benefit on the children health in both short
and long terms. Video games will increase the child mental flexibility making him or her
mentally stronger (Anderson et al, 2010; Green et al, 2012). Also, video games will improve the
child attention skills and the skill of tracking the moving objectives which will help the child
reaction to be better and stronger. Video games can be either a good way to make the children
grow faster to become mentally stronger or it can lead to health problems or violence and
aggressive child. But with good control from the child parents video games can make him or her
a better person in the future.
In conclusion, traditional childhood games were something for the old generation of children and
still until now a good way to improve all skills that children need to grow up and will probably
stay for the future generation to try it. On the other side, video games are a new thing for the
children around the world to learn and try things in different way from the past generations but
still with the same good way of learning from the past. In my opinion, both childhood games and
video games can be either good or dangerous for the children but with the best controlling way
from the child family the child will learn from the video games and the past traditional games
will stay forever a nice memory for us who lived the old generation.
