I need to write a abstract about Aqueous Transport. (Earth Science Major)

I majored in Earth Science. This lesson is about Aqueous Transport. I need to write an abstract. I have already posted the guidelines for the paper. That picture is an introduction to this class. The following textbooks are all for the purpose of writing paper. If you need more information about this class, you can tell me. I don’t need to write the whole paper yet. I’ll invite you if I need to write it later. The abstract requires 200 words at least. Please read all the files carefully. I really need to get a high score. Thank you!!!!!!

Final Paper Guidelines
Your paper will be done in three steps. The 200-word abstract and a short (three
citations) reference list is due to Prof. Clark via an email attachment as either a ‘.doc’ or a
‘.docx’ file by 5 pm on Friday April 27. Please begin your file tittle with your last
name. A submittable draft of the paper is due as an email attachment by 5 pm on Friday May
l8. These will be peer reviewed by a classmate and Prof. Clark. Email peer review comments
to Prof. Clark by 5 pm on Friday June l. You are then to revise your text taking into account
the peer reviews and email it to Dr. Clark before 3:00 on Wednesday June l3. Keep in mind
the submittable draft (10%), peer review (10%), and final draft (15%) combine to make up
35% of your grade so spend the time getting it done right and on time. Work turned in late
will be accepted but there will be a ½ letter grade reduction per day.
Paper Guidelines:
1. Your paper should be similar to a scientific review article. DO NOT WRITE AN
OPINION PIECE SUCH AS AN OP-ED ARTICLE1.
2. Use primary references. Textbooks are not primary references, nor are Wikipedia
or other websites. These may be used to fill in some background information. If used,
they must be cited.
3. Use a standard reference format (see examples at end).
4. The target length of the text 2,500 words.
5. Include at least 1 figure or table. Write your own figure caption or table heading that
includes its source.
6. Cite at least 3 primary (journal) references.
7. Write an abstract
8. Include a title
9. Attribute ideas, data, and figures to proper sources.
10. Do your own work.
Your introduction should be at least three paragraphs and must communicate several
things:
•
The question/problem that your paper will help answer/describe.
•
Why this question/problem is important.
•
Relevant background on the research (what the reader needs to know in order to
understand the paper)

1
If approved by Prof. Clark, the paper can be about an original interpretation of either data
gathered on the web or data produced in a lab on campus. This is a much more difficult task
than writing a review paper.

Peer Review
For the peer review, you will read the text of one of your fellow students and provide
comments in two ways 1) written comments with suggestions about the overall content and
structure (e.g., organization, clarity, flow), 2) editorial marks on a printed copy of the paper
(e.g., pointing out misspellings, rewording suggestions, etc.). Please use the track change tool
in Word (found under the tools menu; you must select “Highlight Changes” and click on the
box next to “track changes while editing”)
Some tips:
•
Always point out strengths as well as elements that need more work
•
Be specific. Point to particular places in the paper where revisions will be helpful
•
Don’t hesitate to respond as a reader, pointing out where you got confused or where
a good argument was made.
•
Make comments in the spirit of helpfulness. Take comments in the spirit of helpfulness.
