This paper is worth 150 points
Due Dates: Your paper is during Monday, 4/30.
PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
This presentation is worth 50 points.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to create a visual and oral presentation about your study.
GUIDELINES
Your presentation should be 8-10 minutes in length. Please practice your presentation and
make sure that it is no more than 10 minutes in length. You will also need to include a
powerpoint or prezi presentation.
“What should I include in my presentation?”
? An introduction to your topic and why you chose to study this particular topic
? Briefly address the approach you used and why
? Tell us your RQ(s) and describe the themes or patterns you found answering them;
provide examples to support them
? Describe the importance of your analysis and how this impacts society
Visual Presentation Guidelines:
Your presentation should be well-designed and organized. Please use images, quotes, and
descriptive language. Be sure your presentation is appropriate for an academic setting. You
are expected to be creative, but you are also expected to be appropriate and professional.
Avoid making common presentation design mistakes! For example, please: use images and
color to complement not distract from your ideas; don’t put too much text or too many
images on one slide; text should be 20 pt. font or larger; proofread your slides; use consistent
colors, fonts, and bullet points throughout; and use an appropriate background design.
Presentation Style:
Your presentation speech should be well-practiced and professional. Because you only have
8-10 minutes, you should carefully think about what you will say. DO NOT SIMPLY READ OFF
OF NOTECARDS OR SLIDES. (Your slides should contain supporting images and text – not your
entire speech!)
I recommend using extemporaneous style speaking, where you have written out an outline
and talking points and you practice delivering the speech from those talking points. Practice
your enunciation, eliminating vocal fillers, and increasing the dynamism of your oral
presentation.

problem and potential qualitative research project.
Assignment Overview: You will be asked to complete a 2 page overview of a study you
would like to conduct. At this point, you need not be concerned about the specific
approach to inquiry, unless you have already selected one. In your summary, include:
(a) the problem or issue you plan to study,
(b) the major research question you plan to ask,
(c) the data you wish to collect and analyze,
(d) the significance of your study, and
(e) your relationship to the topic and participants being studied.
Comm5820: Qualitative Research Methods
Research Activity #3
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to begin to narrow your thinking and to select
a specific approach to use in your project (i.e. phenomenology, case study). Rewrite RA
#1using the specific language of your approach
Assignment Overview: You will be asked to complete a 2 page overview of a study you
would like to conduct. In your summary, include:
(a) the problem or issue you plan to study,
(b) the major research question(s) you plan to ask,
(c) the data you wish to collect and analyze (address the specific approach here
and why you are taking that approach)
(d) the significance of your study, and
(e) how is your project related to communication
Research Activity #4
Annotated Bibliography Assignment
As part of your preparation to do the literature review for your final project, I want you to
create an annotated bibliography. I pulled this information from:
http://guides.library.cornell.edu/annotatedbibliography. It is written by Michael Engle of the
Cornell University Library.
WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each
citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative
paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the
relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
ANNOTATIONS VS. ABSTRACTS
Abstracts are the purely descriptive summaries often found at the beginning of scholarly
journal articles or in periodical indexes. Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose
the author’s point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority.
THE PROCESS
Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills:
concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research.
First, locate and record citations to books, periodicals, and documents that may contain
useful information and ideas on your topic. Briefly examine and review the actual items. Then
choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic.
Cite the book, article, or document using the appropriate style.
Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or
article. Include one or more sentences that (a) describe the topic under examination, (b)
the method including the approach used, data collection, and who participated (c) what
did the study find, (d) the implications, (e) explain how this work illuminates your topic.
Your Assignment: Find 7 articles relevant to your final project and create an annotated
bibliography for each. This assignment is worth 50 points.
Due Date: This is due Wednesday, March 7th
Points
Sources are appropriate for the semester project,
there is a diversity of sources, and annotation clearly
demonstrates the connection between the selected
article and the semester project.
Bibliographic entries are constructed correctly and
consistently use either APA. Entries reflect the
consultation of a style manual.

Research Activity #1
Vision Selfie
If the name of the wars is social media networks these days, then a “selfie” is a major
soldier in that war. The word “selfie” found its way to the dictionary in 2013 when the online
version of Oxford Dictionary accepted it as a new word in the English language. Also, the defined
as “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam
and uploaded to a social media website.
How social media can affect on languages, relations, and daily-life which result loss of
privacy, and the creation of artificial personalities? I collected 33 participants to involve in the
survey. There are 18.2% of participants are women and 81.8% are men. 60.6% participants are
between 25-34 years old only 3% of them don’t have smart phone. The average of hours that spend
daily on phones are 4-6 hours. 30.1 % of participants spend their time on social media such as
Facebook, twitter, and Instagram while 18.1% of them spend their time on taking photos and share
it using social media. Moreover 63.6 % of them share approximately 1-5 photos daily using social
media. The average of photos that in participants’ phone are 3000 pictures while the average of
selfie that in participants’ phone are 200 pictures because 42.4% of them don’t like take selfie.
The significance of study shows that there is a positive relationship between number of
photos on the phone and posting photos on social media daily which means when the number of
photos increase, the posting times on social media will increase. Also, the study shows that there
is negative relationship between the ages and number of photos and hours that spend on the phones.
Which means when the individual become older, he/she will spend less on the phones and doesn’t
take pictures frequently.
Our relationship taking selfies has become an addiction, all thanks to the social media
which plays a major role in our selfie-obsessed culture. According to some estimates in 2014, there
were more than 17 million selfies uploaded to social media each week, but Google’s figures sugge
quantitativest the cult of selfie taking has grown even further, and we continue to upload and share
all day. Isn’t it true?
I reading the study shows in 2012, Google searches for “selfie” took off, and the hashtag
#selfie has grown by more than 200 percent since January 2013. Today, more than 55 million posts
on Instagram are labeled with the hashtag, and the number of #Selfies and #Selfiesunday posts are
above 331 million and 9 million.
Nowadays, selfies are becoming part of our daily lives; everywhere you look, there is
someone or a group of people posing for a selfie. It does not matter, in religious, political, full of
love, or pain.
Grade 10/20
Comment my teacher “you have proposed a quant study. So I really want to rethink this
topic in a qualitative research. what research questions would you ask that. what set at deeper
understanding about selfies? think “why’s” “how’s”.”
RQ: How selfie is changing in Saudi women life?
Research Activity #3
Selfie is Changing in Saudi Women Life
Social media and selfies have impacted the lives of many people of all races, gender and
ages. These are as a result of the advancement of technology (Zarrella, 2009). Some of the social
media platforms are Facebook, Instagram, Snap-Chat and Twitter. People post their pictures and
selfies to get approval from their peers. It is also used as a platform for updating fellow peer groups
the newest trends and fashions. In today’s world, the use of mobile cameras and social media on
selfies has made most of the teenagers and adolescents obsessed.
Comment my teacher “why greater pressure on appearance”
Women, are highly affected more with selfies and posting pictures thus they become more glued
than men. In conjunction, with this, the study seeks to research on the phenomenon of Saudi
Women.” why Saudi women” The problem statement will be backed up by the previous studies
on how social media has affected interrelations between families, colleagues and friends in Saudi
Arabia.
The following objectives will guide the study. For instance, this will constitute of elements
of studies such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The second objective will be to determine
how “yes” the use of social media has affected psycho-social variables. For instance, this will
constitute of elements of studies such as relationships. The relationships may involve family
friends and co-workers. The third objective of this study will be to determine the extent the social
media has affected the level of addictiveness to their phones and gadgets among the Saudi women.
“Why do Saudi women take selfie? or how have selfie impacted Saudi women’s
relationships?” For instance, this will constitute of elements of study such as poor time
management, unproductivity and obsession. The last objective will be to determine the how the
use of social media and selfies has impacted on the mood in Saudi Arabia women concerning their
lives. The elements of this objective will be their studies, career and personal development.
Data collected will be primary data. The researcher will determine quantitative methods
of data collection targeting Saudi Women through non-random sampling.
The data collected will be researched using descriptive research design. The problem is
well defined, and the researcher is conversant with the problem statement (Bernard, 2013). This
design describes behavior that the researcher cannot control. The researcher will always report the
results as depicted in the study. The data will be analyzed using descriptive forms of percentages
and frequencies to achieve accuracy in the presentation.
Scholars and academicians will use the significance of the study as a source of information
on other research topics in the social media platform. Mostly, scholars in the field of
communication, information technology and also psychology and counselling.
This study applies to communication as a form of reference on the new trends in
technology involving the exchange of information. Communication globally has been made easier
by the use of mobile phones and gadgets. One can send information to someone who is overseas
with a blink of an eye. This has led to the effect of selfie-taking and sending them online to convey
a certain message to the receiver. This makes conversations more electronic and reliable than the
past days. So, I want to know whether selfie have effect on Saudi women lives.

Selfies on Saudi women’s
1. Abidin, C. (2014). # In $ tagLam: Instagram as a repository of taste, a burgeoning
marketplace, a war of eyeballs. In Mobile media making in an age of Smartphones (pp.
119-128). Palgrave Pivot, New York. “is this book”
The author of the article, Abidin, is discussing the importance of Instagram and social
media platforms and apps in selling selfies as a form of business platform. The author and the
other friends have a publishing connection where they print Instagram photos marketing products
such as beverages and other products such as handbags attire, bracelets and also the wedding,
engagement and friendship silver rings. They have minimum followers of around 50,000
followers in the Instagram where they do their marketing in Singapore across borders extending
to Saudi Arabia. The personalities, Ryan, Linda and Emma, are seen using the Instagram app to
market their business and make a living through it. They also seek for models to recruit in their
selfies photo shoot sessions to create more appeal to their customers.
The author has created a form of an appeal of using the Instagram app and selfies taking
as a form of making money online. He can elaborate the daily lives of the three entrepreneurs
who are young and motivated through the use of selfies to market their business.
2. Alyedreessy, L. M., Helsdingen, A. S., & Al-Sobaihi, B. (2017). Social Media, Social
Inclusion and Women’s Self-Esteem. In Arab Women and the Media in Changing
Landscapes (pp. 111-122). Palgrave Macmillan, Cham.
The authors Alydressy Al-sobaihi and Helsdinger of the article, illustrate the effect of
social media and selfie-taking on women in Arabia. They elaborate the fact that the woman in
the region does have an overreliance of approval through online platform following their selfies
posts. They have an overreliance of external validation and peer influence. Lack of social media
recognition may lead to depression, solitude and lack of acknowledgement. The authors can
create an audience in Arabian Peninsula where he makes it clear that since time in memorial
Saudi women were exposed to limited access to social media. This creates his theme in the sense
that the social media and selfies taking is mainly used in self-esteem boosting for the Arabian
women.
The authors can capture the relationship between the past and the present or modern
Saudi Arabian woman. He can give a clear illustration of their exposure to social media and the
difference it has brought over the ages as far as self-esteem is concerned. This is the main
strength of the article. “Excellent story”
3. .Bar, A. A. (2016). A Comparative Study of Empowering Women in Management of
Higher Education Institutions in Saudi Arabia and Japan. “Book article”
The author, Bar illustrated the empowerment of Saudi women and their knowledge and
improved technical know-how as far as the technology advancement is concerned. Their
empowerment is brought about by the technological education models as compared with Japan.
Having the use and empowerment of selfies and control over social media gives the Saudi
women a feeling of empowerment and acknowledgement. The author tries to illustrate the
differences that had been in the past and modern Saudi woman as far as technology is concerned.
He also explains how Saudi women are enthusiastic about taking selfies and their use compared
to Japan women through studies done in higher institutions.
Through the article, the author can bring about the self-awareness and concept of the
Saudi women who have acknowledged the need to be empowered. Most women in tertiary
institutions from Saudi have been able to cope with the growing technology and use the social
media to their advantage.
4. Bourdeloie, H., Silveri, C. G., & Houmair, (2014). Saudi Women and Socio-Digital
Technologies: Reconfiguring Identities.
The authors, Bourdeloie, Silveri and Houmair of the article illustrated a research that was
done in Saudi Arabia in the capital Riyadh. He can explore the precise usage of technologies by
the women in Saudi. He explains how the female gender in Saudi has been trampled on by the
social, cultural and religious norms. He can bring out a clear picture of how the Saudi woman is
empowered “in what ways” to use cell phones. He also expounds how she can use various apps
on the phone especially to take photos and selfies in her communication and ultimately giving
her a cultural, gender and social identity.
On the same, the main strong points of the authors are that they can recognize the fact
that women in Riyadh …
