Revision Plan
According to the feedback, I need to work on my argument. I need to convince the reader
to sway them towards why prostitution should be illegal. In that case, there are some areas that I
need to work on. First is the structure of my sentence. Instead of them being more of conclusive
about the main point they should be explanative. That is the need to provide a reason for my
work. In order, to be able to convince someone, you need to give them the idea to do to so. So, in
this case, I will need to change the perspective and try providing reasons as to why prostitution
should not be legalized. This will help make the argument stronger and there for improving my
essay.
The other problem that the instructor sighted is that the paper seems to summarize
different points. I need to explain my points more in-depth if I will be able to support my stand. I
will add more examples to my points. Examples help reinforce the main point. The cases will
also be made of facts that are cited and drawn from reliable and reputable sources. Then instead
of trying to convince the reader of my beliefs, I will use facts instead. This gives the reader a
point to argue out. They can then decide whether they are convinced that prostitution should be
made illegal.

Prostitution should not be legalized
The proscription or legalization of prostitution has been one of the most controversial
debate issues from time immemorial. Prostitution is among the oldest professions dating back to
as far as the biblical times and probably before that if the evolution theory is anything to go by.
Throughout the human history, prostitution has traversed through generations being frowned
upon in some societies and being taken as the norm in others. In the United States, prostitution
was legal in most states until around the year 1915 during World War I. Most states started to
pass legislation that illegalized prostitution to compel most soldiers out of the brothels and into
the war campaign. Long after the World Wars, these laws have remained in place to date. There
are pertinent reasons why this state of affairs continues to prevail. Prostitution violates a majority
of the moral precepts of the society, and it should be strongly discouraged through all the
available channels. This is only one of the multiple reasons why it should not be legalized.
Arguments
Most societies do not see prostitution as a good practice. This is because of various
reasons, and therefore it is deemed morally wrong. For example, prostitution leads to the
destruction of marriages. When one partner engages in prostitution, it puts the other at risk of
being sick. The other partner feels that their trust, love, and loyalty are based on lies. Prostitution
also exposes a lack of intimacy in a marriage. This makes the other partner feel insecure and
believe that the marriage is not working and for that reason, divorces emerge. Most religions
view prostitution as a social wrong. This is because it involves one having sex to make money.
This is despite there being very many career paths to take. It is also known that prostitution can
lead to addiction which contributes to crime (Jacob, 2016). When a client is addicted but has no
money, they will end up committing a crime to get the money. If they can’t get the money, then
they are very likely to rape someone. For this reason, prostitution promotes crime.
Prostitution also promotes other forms of crime that are experienced in the society
(Bisschop, 2017). Most prostitutes engage in the abuse of illegal drugs and substances as a form
of escape from the psychological conflicts that come with engagement into their business.

Furthermore, there are cases of violence in brothels due to disputes on payment or even unusual
demands from clients. In extreme cases, these arguments may result in cases of murder.
Prostitution is also said to contribute more incidents of juvenile sexual activities which are both
immoral and illegal (Jacob, 2016). Additionally, a country where prostitution is a legal practice
or is very common experience very many cases of human trafficking. This is because demands
from clients may exceed the available supply of prostitutes, therefore, creating the necessity for
this crime. Furthermore, cases of illegal immigration as a result of the legalization of prostitution
may become rampant as many prostitutes will consider the country a haven for their business.
Prostitution is a behavior with many significant health risks (Jacob, 2016). This is
because it involves a lot of body contact. This contact can result in transmission of diseases.
Sexually transmitted infections spread very first when an infected person is engaged in
prostitution. It does not matter who is infected first. When a client is infected, they will
contaminate the sex worker affected, and in turn, she will infect other men she is involved with.
The clients will go ahead and infect their partners (Gabe, 1996). Therefore, prostitution is very
likely to result in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The reason that prostitution is not
practiced everywhere is the fact that it is not legal. Legalizing prostitution means that it will be a
welcome habit that will include all types of people as long as they can pay.
The next reason why prostitution should not be legalized is that it tells children that
prostitution is good and it is right. Currently, the average age at which most people start
engaging in prostitution stands at fourteen years (Kitae, 2016). This means that most prostitutes
are kids who dropped out of school after eighth grade. If prostitution is made legal, then the
average age is likely going even lower as it is being encouraged. Therefore legalization of
prostitution will promote more fourteen-year-olds to drop out of school instead of finishing their
education and pursuing careers.
Proponents of legalization also argue that the funds used to fight prostitution could be
instead channeled towards streamlining the prostitution business and making it a professional

undertaking. In some cases, prostitutes get abused by clients, but they fear to report these
incidences to authorities because of potential victimization by the police. If the act is legalized,
there will also be less stigmatization of prostitutes because prostitution is also a way to secure
financial stability. Some women rely on prostitution as a way to avoid living a life of abject
poverty and cater for bills (Kitae, 2016). Finally, the proponents of legalization argue that if
properly regulated, prostitution can be an additional source of revenue for the government. The
proceeds can be used to fund state projects that may have stopped due to lack of funds.
Conclusion
Prostitution should be made illegal in spite of the fact that proponents of legalization also
present convincing arguments for their position. It is an inevitable fact that whether it is banned
or accepted legally, prostitution is bound to stay. It is also true that there lacks substantial
evidence that legalization is likely to make things better for women (Raymond, 2004). Not only
does it affect the women working as sex workers. It goes ahead to affect a lot of parties some of
whom were not participants. As much as it could be advantageous to the government and the sex
workers, it has more harm on the community than benefits, and for that reason, it should not be
legalized.

Prostitution Should not be Legalized
The proscription or legalization of prostitution has been one of the most controversial
debate issues from time immemorial. Prostitution is thought to be one of the oldest
professions dating back to as far as the biblical times and probably before that if the evolution
theory is anything to go by. Throughout the human history, prostitution has traversed through
generations being frowned upon in some societies and being taken as the norm in others. In
the United States, prostitution was legal in most states until around the year 1915 during
World War I. Most states started to pass legislation that illegalized prostitution so as to
compel most soldiers out of the brothels and into the war campaign. Long after the World
Wars, these laws have remained in place to date. There are pertinent reasons why this state of
affairs continues to prevail. Prostitution violates majority of the moral precepts of the society
and it should be strongly discouraged through all the available channels.
Arguments
From a conservative perspective, prostitution is said to degrade the sanctity of
marriage because of the reckless sexual practices that it promotes. The sacredness of sex as a
natural act that brings forth new life is highly disregarded by prostitution. Consequently, the
value of human life also gets demeaned. In addition, conservatives also assert that the
institution of marriage will be under the risk of extinction in the face of prostitution. Most
men will opt to live single because their needs can be satisfied in brothels. Furthermore, even
those who are married cheat on their wives or husbands by going to seek the services of
prostitutes. Prostitution generally erodes the moral fabric of a society and any legal backing
will be a move to legitimize this immoral practice.
2
PROSTITUTION SHOULD NOT BE LEGALIZED
The liberals, on the other hand, present an even more compelling reason to deny
legalization of prostitution. In the modern age of various sexually transmitted diseases
especially HIV/AIDS the health argument supersedes even the morality argument. There is
widespread knowledge about safe sexual practices but in the context of the prostitutes
working in brothels, this advice falls on deaf ears. The clients may compel the prostitutes into
having unprotected sex on the basis that they have paid and should do as they please. If a
misfortune happens and the sex worker gets infected with HIV then more clients are likely to
be infected as well. This is because the time taken from infection to manifestation of the viral
content in the conventional HIV tests could be several weeks to months (Gabe, 1996).
Prostitution also promotes the rates of crime that are experienced in the society
(Bisschop, 2017). Most prostitutes engage in the abuse of illegal drugs and substances as a
form of escape from the psychological conflicts that come with engagement into their
business. Furthermore, there are cases of violence in brothels due to disputes on payment or
even unusual demands from clients. In extreme cases, these arguments may result in cases of
murder. Prostitution is also said to contribute more cases of juvenile prostitution activities
which are both immoral and illegal. Additionally, countries where prostitution is a legal
practice experience high levels of human trafficking. This is because demands from clients
may exceed the available supply of prostitutes, therefore, creating the necessity for this crime.
Furthermore, cases of illegal immigration as a result of the legalization of prostitution may
become rampant as many prostitutes will consider the country a safe haven for their business.
Pro-legalization arguments
3
PROSTITUTION SHOULD NOT BE LEGALIZED
Those in favor of legalization of prostitution argue that all human beings have a basic
right to do with their bodies as they wish as long as they do not harm others in doing so.
Prostitution is one way of exercising this right. Therefore, if the government steps in to
regulate prostitution it will amount to the violation of the freedoms of its citizens. This is
against the dictates of the constitution. The government will also be perceived to be
exercising excessive powers on people’s private lives by restricting people to pay for sex with
consenting adults. It also amounts to double standards when paying for expensive dinners,
booking luxurious hotels or even purchasing exorbitant jewelry for the purpose of soliciting
sex is allowed but fishing out hard cash for the same favor is considered criminal.
Proponents of legalization also argue that the funds used to fight prostitution could be
instead channeled towards streamlining the prostitution business and making it a professional
undertaking. In some cases, prostitutes get abused by clients but they fear to report these
incidences to authorities because of potential victimization by the police. If the business is
legalized there will also be less stigmatization of prostitutes because prostitution is also a way
to secure financial stability. Some women rely on prostitution as a way to avoid living a life
of abject poverty and cater for bills.
Finally, the proponents of legalization argue that if properly regulated, prostitution
can be an additional source of revenue for the government. The proceeds can be used to run
state functions that may have stagnated due to lack of funds.
Conclusion
Prostitution should be illegalized in spite of the fact that proponents of legalization
also present convincing arguments for their position. It is an inevitable fact that whether it is
banned or accepted legally, prostitution is bound to stay. It is also true that there is no
evidence that legalization is likely to make things better for women (Raymond, 2004).
4
PROSTITUTION SHOULD NOT BE LEGALIZED
However, I believe that even if the position on prostitution is a personal choice, morality and
the practical risks of the profession should be extensively evaluated.
