Running head: MILESTONE ONE
Final Project Part I Milestone One
Southern New Hampshire University
Running head: MILESTONE ONE
My client is Sarah, she is a 30-year-old mother of 2 and married for ten years. She
recently moved from Maine back to her hometown and is struggling in every aspect of her life.
Sarah has a daughter who is 12 years old and a 6-year-old son who was just diagnosed with
autism. Sarah just got fired from her job as a cashier and is stressed as to how she will make ends
meet. Sarahâ??s husband works as a painter but does not produce enough to hold the house down.
Sarah explained that they have been fighting a lot and she fears things will go further if he does
not control himself.
Sarah indicated that they recently go into an altercation and was violently pushed against
the wall in front of her kids. Her husband accused her of being unfaithful due to some text
messages on an old phone that were from several years ago. Sarah explains that this has
happened in the past and that he promised to change, but recently he has been going back to his
old behaviors. Sarahâ??s children donâ??t want to be around their father, and they call him â??meanie.â?
Sarah is very petite and frail; she has no high school diploma which is why she struggles to look
for a decent paying job. Sarah is helpless and seeking options to leave her husband and start a
new life with her kids.
In assessing Sarahâ??s situation what she is experiencing is Domestic Violence. She is also
in need of financial assistance and what it seems childcare. Sarah explained one of the reasons
she lost her job was due to childcare. Her 6-year-old was in daycare, and the daycare could no
longer care for him due to his autism. The daycare explained they are not adequately trained and
therefore asked that she not bring him back. Sarah feels like this has been a domino effect in her
life with first her marriage, losing her job, childcare, and now she feels she cannot care for
herself and her children. Sarah often says she does not know what to do.
Running head: MILESTONE ONE
Based on this scenario Sarah is feeling helpless and does not have faith in herself. She
wants to return to school and work while she can get childcare, but she finds it impossible.
Sarahâ??s mother lives near her but is unable to care for her grandchildren due to her mental and
physical condition, which has also taken a toll on Sarah. Her biggest strength is her children;
they keep her going, and she has the will to do better so she can provide a safe environment for
My role is to provide a comprehensive assessment of her needs and facilitate any
necessary resources and services. Also, I would protect her identity and respect her values as a
human being. It is essential to store her records and provide the confidentiality with dignity and
do my job according to the legal rules, principles, and laws. Lastly and most importantly one
must remain unbiased to any and all situations. Some of the services I would offer would be
domestic violence shelter, emergency financial services, job placement, childcare and counseling
for her and her family.
